The cooldown system is a tool designed to prevent spamming of cards by users. When a cooldown is activated, each user is limited to redeeming a set number of cards (per type or rarity) until the cooldown period expires.
How It Works
For example, if you set a 2-second cooldown for a common card, the same user will need to wait 2 seconds after redeeming one common card before they can redeem another of the same type.
You can customize your cooldown settings so that they apply to cards of a specific rarity, or you can allow users to redeem different numbers of cards based on rarity. For instance, you might configure a system where, every 5 minutes, a user can redeem up to:
- 2 common cards
- 2 rare cards
- 3 epic cards
- 5 legendary cards
With this setup, a user can redeem up to 12 cards every 5 minutes.
When Should You Activate a Cooldown?
It’s always a good idea to set up at least a minimum cooldown to prevent users from redeeming too many cards in a short period of time.
The ideal cooldown configuration depends on how active your users are on Streamloots and the mechanics of your collection. For most streamers, we recommend the following cooldown settings:
- 5-second cooldown per card type
- 1 common card
- 1 rare card
- 1 epic card
- 1 legendary card
This setup prevents users from redeeming the same card repeatedly in quick succession.
If you have numerous users redeeming cards simultaneously, you might want to extend the cooldown to 30 seconds while maintaining the same limits.
Some streamers prefer to encourage users to redeem the same card multiple times. In this case, you can apply a cooldown only to common cards and consider adjusting the card’s rarity to limit its availability.
Cooldown Options
Collection-Level Cooldown
By default, cooldowns apply across all collections in your account. If a user redeems a card in one collection and triggers the cooldown, they will need to wait for the cooldown to expire before redeeming cards from another collection.
Card-Level Cooldown
You can also apply a cooldown to individual cards via the card edit panel. The cooldown for individual cards applies globally to all users. For instance, if you set a 10-minute cooldown for a specific card, any user who redeems it will prevent other users from redeeming the same card until 10 minutes have passed.
Global Cooldown
Streamloots also includes a Global Cooldown feature, which applies a cooldown to all viewers and all collections. This means that if you set a global cooldown of 5 minutes, only one card can be redeemed across all collections every 5 minutes.
This setting is available alongside the existing per-user cooldown, under Page Settings > Cooldown.
Note: Be mindful when applying global cooldowns, as they may impact the experience for new buyers or users who are unfamiliar with your collection’s mechanics.
