Whenever a pack is opened, the first thing the algorithm used to select the cards does is to calculate the rarity of the cards that are going to appear. Then, it calculates which card within that rarity will appear. Therefore, the probability of obtaining a certain card depends on three main elements:
- The rarity of the card.
- The number of cards within that rarity that can appear in packs (always taking into account that they are published, that they can be obtained through packs, and, if they are limited, that there are still some available).
- The probability of a card within its rarity.
There are four rarities, and while it is true that you can edit the probability of each rarity, we strongly advise you to follow these guidelines:
Common cards: These are the cards that tend to appear the most. Therefore, we strongly advise that they are not too intrusive in your live stream, or that you set a long cooldown for them.
Rare cards: These are less likely to appear than common cards. Use them to add simple interactions to your live stream. For example: shooting into the air during a game or getting up from your chair for ten seconds.
Epic cards: These cards are a lot less frequent. You can use them to add interactions that might affect a round of your game or actions that last some minutes.
Legendary cards: These are the least likely cards to appear. Use them to create very special interactions with your viewers, such as destroying your last Minecraft creation or sending a user a dedicated video.
Go to the “Probabilities” page to modify the probability of each rarity appearing in the collection you are working with. You can also test how many cards appear when you open several packs in that collection.
Probability of a legendary card appearing in a pack
Please note that each pack contains three cards. Therefore, on top of each rarity's probability, you should also take into consideration the probability of a certain card within a certain rarity appearing in a pack. This is how this probability is calculated:
Pn = (1 - P)P = 1 -( Pn * Pn * Pn)
For example, if the probability of getting one legendary card is 1%, the probability of obtaining a legendary card in a pack will be the following: Pn = (1 - 0.01)P = 1 - (0.99 * 0.99 * 0.99) = 2.97%
Since calculating probabilities can be quite complex, we highly recommend that you use repeatedly the option to open test packs. This is very useful since it will give you a clear idea of which cards could appear when a thousand packs are opened.
Probability of cards within a rarity
The probability of a card within its rarity mainly depends on the number of published cards that can appear inside packs. For example, if you have published 10 common cards, the probability of obtaining a common card is 10%. If you have 20, the probability would be 5%.
You can decrease the likelihood of obtaining a card by clicking on Edit card and then choosing the Other settings option.
To simplify the process, we offer four preset options:
- Normal
- A little less frequent
- Less frequent
- Much less frequent
The impact of each of these options on the probability also depends on the number of published cards that can appear in packs. Showing their actual probability in the Edit card section could cause confusion since there are several elements that can modify it. Hence, if you want to know the actual frequency rate of a card's appearance inside packs, we suggest you play around with the probability tester.
